Major Goals of Training Program
The Medical College of Wisconsin's Allergy and Clinical Immunology training program is a combined pediatric-internal medicine program with positions for residents trained in pediatrics or internal medicine. The Medical College of Wisconsin is one of the 12 national Jeffrey Modell Foundation's Centers of Immunological Excellence. The A&I program offers in-depth clinical experiences in allergic diseases, congenital and acquired immunodeficiency, and systemic inflammatory disorders. There are multi-disciplinary programs in immunodeficiency, comprehensive asthma, and eosinophilic esophagitis. Fellows are responsible for both inpatient and outpatient care of individuals with a variety of allergic and immunologic diseases. In addition, there is ample time for basic science or clinical research depending upon the expertise and wishes of the candidates. The Fellows see pediatric and adult patients in an integrated site, providing an enhanced educational experience, and strengthening the program. This allows the Fellow to develop well-rounded and excellent clinical training in allergic and immunologic diseases of children and adults. Fellows develop skills in clinical and basic science research investigation, and present research at national meetings and in peer-reviewed publications.

Major Goals of Training Program
The Allergy and Clinical Immunology Fellowship Program at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics consists of a 3-year training program that includes both extensive clinical experiences and research training that will lead to a career in academic medicine. Research interests of the Allergy section currently include airway cell biology (lymphocytes and eosinophils), mechanisms of virus-induced asthma, exercise-induced asthma, treatment of asthma in childhood and the elderly and T-cell regulation. The Allergy Section is also one of 10 programs in the country funded by the NHLBI to form the AsthmaNET, an asthma clinical research network, along with an NHLBI SCOR on Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Asthma, and an NIAID Asthma and Allergic Diseases Center Grant. Fellows participate in a basic or translational research project throughout their entire fellowship and present their work at a number of local and national meetings. One of the unique aspects of the training program is that fellows will be exposed to both adult and pediatric patients continually throughout their fellowship. Fellows are responsible for both outpatient and inpatient (consult) care of individuals with a variety of allergic and immunologic diseases including immunodeficiency. Additional courses in basic immunology and an introduction to biostatistics are part of the curriculum. Applicants must be board eligible or certified in either internal medicine or pediatrics and are chosen on the basis of their previous experiences and accomplishments, and interest in pursuing careers in Academic Allergy/Immunology.
