Major Goals of Training Program
The goal of this Fellowship program is to prepare interested and motivated physicians to become leaders in academic allergy, immunology and rheumatology. In the course of three years, fellows in training are exposed to a comprehensive clinical experience coupled with intensive research training. Graduates of the program acquire highly specialized clinical skills and refined laboratory skills in cellular, biochemical and molecular genetic techniques that allow them to pursue careers as outstanding clinicians and productive physician scientists. This program provides clinical and research training in adult and pediatric allergy and immunology in an urban medical center. Additional time is spent in otolaryngology and dermatology with opportunity for rheumatology and infectious disease electives. This program has strong outpatient clinical allergy-immunology training as well as excellent research opportunities. A minimum of 12 months of protected research time is spent with one of numerous mentors from the basic science immunology or full-time A&I program faculty. A broad spectrum of potential projects are available and the faculty is experienced in helping trainees proceed though successful initiation, completion, and presentation of a research project.

Major Goals of Training Program
The objective of this training program is to provide an opportunity for each resident (fellow) to develop clinical and scientific excellence in the area of allergy and immunology. This objective is met by combining an in-depth research experience in immunology with a broad clinical experience in allergy and immunology, plus rotation in related subspecialty disciplines. This requires a minimum of a two-year commitment but is more fully met with a three to five year commitment.

Major Goals of Training Program
The goal of the Massachusetts General Hospital fellowship program in allergy and immunology is to prepare physicians to become leaders in academic allergy and immunology. The program seeks to develop clinical and scientific excellence in the areas of allergy and immunology by providing a strong academic experience through didactic, clinical and research training. The trainee receives a comprehensive clinical experience in both adult and pediatric allergy and immunology and also undertakes subspecialty rotations in dermatology, pulmonary, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, and diagnostic laboratory immunology. The majority of the clinical training is provided within Massachusetts General Hospital and at the neighboring Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Additional pediatric experience is provided at Children's Hospital Boston. The Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at Massachusetts General Hospital includes a new state-of-the-art Center for Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases, which serves as a valuable scientific resource for the Allergy and Immunology trainees. Research in the Center focuses on the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Areas of particular interest include autoimmunity, MHC-peptide-T cell interactions, dendritic cell biology, cytokine and chemokine biology and signaling, and leukocyte trafficking in allergic diseases and asthma. Each trainee will receive exposure to rigorous scientific training during the conduct an independent laboratory basic science or clinical research project under faculty supervision. The fellowship program requires a minimum 2-year commitment but is more fully suited to trainees with longer commitments to training.
