November 2008 Buy smART: A New Cooperative Buying Program Available to Members Thanks to the efforts of the Federation of Regional, State and Local Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Societies (RSLAAIS), AAAAI members can now buy smART through a cooperative buying program. More > Allied Health Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) is, as its name suggests, a hypersensitivity reaction in the airways due to exposure to the common fungus Aspergillus. Aspergillus spores are ubiquitous—an individual will inhale several hundred spores a day. For most individuals, this causes no harm. However, for individuals with lung disease or those whose immune system is suppressed or severely compromised, this antigen can colonize the airways and trigger persistent inflammation that results in bronchiectasis.
